Do you know more about the Sermons line, into which Wilford Smith married? I have heard they have Indian lineage, which gave our Smith line its dark looks.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Linda
Linda,
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm sorry I don't. I have had other people asking about Indian lineage but no one seems to have any proof. I do know that the Sermons came from England. Wish I could help. Should you come across information, please let me know. Thank you for coming by The Branches on Our Tree.
Betty
My Great-grandfather James Monroe Smith married Nancy Sermons who was full blood Choctaw or Cherokee Indian in Pike County, MS soon after the Civil War. Descendants of James Monroe are John Hiram Smith---Thomas James Smith---and me James Edward Smith. The dark looks didn't descend to our family, but daddy's brother Jack and his kids were dark. Uncle Willis son of James Monroe and all his kids had a dark complexion
